Annemarie Tanke retires from international cricket

It has been announced that all-rounder Annemarie Tanke has retired from all international cricket
having played for 13 years in the National team.

Speaking today she said “After being involved with the Dutch team for over 13 years, I think the time has now come for me to retire. It’s been an amazing journey and I feel extremely privileged, proud and humbled to have been allowed to represent my country for over a decade. Cricket has obviously been a huge part of my life and I feel pretty sad walking away from it now; 2011 promises to be the biggest year to date for the team, supported by the most professional set up to date. I have every faith that like we did in 2010 you’ll once again realize most of your goals this coming season, with the biggest prize of all to be won in November. Good luck! “

Richard Cox said “We wish Annemarie all the very best for her future and respect her decision having devoted so many years to the National team. Many people do not realize the commitment these players give to play for the Netherlands often practicing and training 3 or 4 times a week under the new regime. It’s a lot but it’s what is required to compete at the International level these days. It will be tough to replace Annemarie’s leg spin in the team as she offers something that many countries do not have as well as her belligerent batting style but she is not lost to Dutch Cricket entirely as she will head up the Dutch U13 coaching programme in 2011 and we look forward to her using all those experiences to bring on the next generation of players.”

The National team plus invited triallists will recommence their programme this weekend under Head Coach Ed de Moura Correia and the finalized Winter training squad for the national team is expected to be announced in the next few weeks. The new A team programme and squad will be announced following trials in Utrecht on December 17th and the remaining age group teams at U 13 15 and 17 will have their squads formalized in January 2011 following trials and recommendations from the coaching panel.

This retirement follows that of Caroline Salomons earlier in the year
